Friday, May 3-Sunday, May 19, 2019, Allen: "Native Gardens." Written by Karen Zacarías. Directed by Robert Barry Fleming. (In previews Saturday, April 27-Thursday, May 2.)
What starts as a squabble over a backyard property line in a neighborhood in Washington, D.C., erupts into a full-blown, border dispute that unearths deeply rooted assumptions and plants the seeds for understanding.
The neighbors in this comedy with a bite are just like folks we know, says Kepley, only in Zacarias' 'hood, they are pushed to increasingly comic extremes. Despite the humor, the play asks as serious question: "What does it take to be a good neighbor?"
